There are several ways of medical treatment. The first and foremost thing while going for a medical treatment is the visit to the doctor. Doctor helps to cure us from our diseases. But, there are several hidden diseases and causes in our body which the doctor might not be able to reach without proper diagnosis.

The diagnosis and treatment is based upon the verification of various tests.  There are several ways of testing the causes of disease, like blood test, urine test etc which helps the doctor to know the exact position of the patient’s body.

What is CT scan?

CT scan is a body scanning test which helps to know the position of the inner body by providing us with pictures, containing detail of scanned body parts. These pictures and details help to cure diseases like cancer, tumour, cardiovascular disease etc. This kind of testing is known as CT scanning. The other ways for testing and diagnosing such diseases are CT angiography or CTA scan.

CT scanning is a non-invasive and painless test that helps the physicians identify the disease and take the necessary steps to cure the same. CT scan is also known as CAT scan. The results of CT scans are much better than results of X- ray as the results are obtained by scanning for bones. Images of body tissues and blood vessels are much clearer through CTA scan.

Common uses of scanning

The CT scanning procedure is quite commonly used for:

  • For checking the abdomen or for studying about the chest.
  • For diagnosing different kinds of cancer including lungs and liver cancer.
  • It helps the physician to know the perfect location of the tumor in the body and the exact size of the tumor.
  • It helps in viewing the skeletal structure of the body, along with small bones of the body.
  • Thus, this examination helps in timely identifying the various diseases of the body, which helps in curing the patient faster and thus, helps to protect the patient form the result of kidney failure or from death.

Usage of CT scan by the physicians

  • They are used and planned by the doctors to control radiation treatments for tumor.
  • They are used when doctors are planning for surgery.
  • They are used to identify the problems that have taken place in the bones, liver, kidneys or any other integral part of the body.
  • They help in guiding the insidious procedures.

How to do the machine look like?

The machines used for scanning are generally very large with a hole in the middle of the machine. There is a table on which the patient lies into and out of this hole or tunnel. Thereafter, the x-ray tube and electronic x-ray detectors rotate near the patient. They are completely opposite to each other and are placed in a ring known as a gantry. The workstation of the procedure is placed in the other room.

Thus, the procedure of the scanning starts which can take place for about five minutes to 30 minutes for the whole body. After this the interpretation work is carried on by the supervisor who results the examinations carried for the patient. Then after this reports being send to the consulted doctor of the patient for other various verifications.
